There's no one “right” AkzoNobel coating — and that's the point

Scenario 3: Specialty finishes — cement dye and clear coats
This is where procurement gets uncomfortable. A powder pigment cement dye for concrete floors can look perfect in a test patch, then go uneven on the slab if the mix ratio shifts. A clear coat over wood or metal can develop tiny bubbles that ruin the finish. Solvent pop. That's the one that hurts.
If you're asking what causes solvent pop in clear coat, here's the short version: solvent gets trapped under the surface of a coating that has already formed a skin. Once the top is cured, the solvent underneath still needs to escape. It pushes out, leaving little craters or bubbles. For concrete coloring, same logic. Powder pigment cement dye needs to be weighed, not eyeballed. Consistent mixing matters more than the pigment brand. If a batch is off, you're not repainting a wall — you're tearing out a slab. That's a TCO argument if I've ever heard one.
How to tell which scenario you're in

If the finish is decorative concrete, a clear-coat showcase, or anywhere a defect is immediately visible, you're in Scenario 3. Test panels, flash times, and mix consistency matter more than the price per liter. Period.
And if the lines blur, ask for help. Not just a product quote — ask for technical support. The right coating advice can save you an entire weekend of rework. That's a fact I learned on a Sunday afternoon, staring at a popped clear coat and a client email I didn't want to open.
So choose your scenario, calculate your TCO, and buy the system that makes the outcome predictable. That's the real goal. A predictable result is worth more than a supposed bargain — every time.
