Epoxy resin is smooth and non-porous—paint has almost nothing to grip. Paint applied directly to a cured epoxy surface will peel or chip within months. The fix is simple: scuff-sand with 180–220 grit, remove all the dust, apply a bonding primer, then topcoat.

Our technical team handed me a spec sheet two years ago claiming their primer would bond directly to cured epoxy. The data sheet sounded sure of itself. My gut said nothing bonds to cured epoxy without scuffing, no matter what the chemistry promises. I had the crew sand the surface anyway that time. Then we tested it both ways.
